How to Draw House Roof Plans

HOW TO Describe A HIP & VALLEY ROOF

This is a guide on how to depict a hip and valley roof in 2D plan view. Roofs can get quite circuitous but hopefully the different means I prove you lot how to approach the roof design may be helpful.
All measurements shown are in mm (millimeters)
I recommend reading each example to ensure you lot have read all the information offered as the same information is not repeated in each instance.

Example 1

I always try and work out pieces of the roof into rectangles or squares to assist in working out roof line placement.
	In this stride, we can describe in the hip lines and ridge line. Delete the temporary lines nosotros drew in the before steps as shown dashed in ruby-red.

Example 3
	Every bit you lot can encounter, this is a floor programme layout of a house based on the previous example layout, but with an extra slice taken out.
	To start drawing in the hipped roof, draw lines at 45 degree angles from all the points on the roof every bit shown in blueish.
	Now we tin can draw in the ridge lines as shown.

	In this pace, I have drawn in the hip (purple colour) from the previous steps working out, and also deleted the temporary dashed lines from the previous stride. In this step, we have again drawn in the temporary lines of the hips and the vertica and horzontal lines for the imaginary box.
	In this step, the hip lines accept been drawn in and the temporary lines shown in red tin be deleted.
	Now merely draw in the ridge lines.

Example four
	As you tin can run across, this is a floor programme layout of a house based on the previous example layout, but with an extra pieces taken out.
	This fourth dimension nosotros are going to arroyo the roof design a little differently. I have created a serial of coloured rectangles. Imagine each rectangle as its own seperate roof. This is how we are going to work out the roof, in pieces, that we will then bring together together.
	Here I accept started creating hip roofs from 4 of the coloured rectangles.
	Now lets tackle the biggest rectangle, the green 1. In this stride I accept added the hips and also valleys. In the next footstep, we will merge the roof lines together. Some parts that are shown now that intersect wil need to be erased to form the proper roof line.
	In this step, the dashed grayness lines are to be erased. The blueish lines are the connecting pieces to merge the different roofs together.
	Now we will work on the last rectangle. Add the hips and valley as shown.
	Erase the grey dashed lines.
